At Bernhard Baron Care Home, we understand the deep bond between people and their pets. For many, a pet is more than a companion—it’s a member of the family. That’s why we’re delighted to now welcome pets into our cottages, offering new Residents the opportunity to continue life with their beloved animals by their side.

Why We’ve Opened Our Doors to Pets

We know the incredible comfort and companionship pets bring. They provide joy, reduce stress, and support mental and physical wellbeing. For many of our Residents, the presence of a pet makes all the difference—offering routine, purpose, and unconditional love. Whether it’s a daily walk, a quiet evening curled up together, or a reassuring presence during times of transition, pets enhance quality of life in countless ways.

Pet-Friendly Living in Our Cottages

While our main building rooms remain pet-free for practical reasons, our independent cottages now offer a welcoming environment for certain types of pets—primarily small to medium dogs and cats. All pet requests are considered individually, and pet ownership must be approved in advance to ensure the safety, comfort, and wellbeing of all Residents.

Responsible Pet Ownership

We’re committed to maintaining a harmonious community for everyone, which is why we’ve put clear guidelines in place. These include:

One well-behaved dog or cat per cottage (assistance dogs always welcome)

Full vaccination records, microchipping, and insurance are required before a pet can move in

Owners must take full responsibility for feeding, exercise, grooming, and waste disposal

Pets must not enter communal dining or food preparation areas

A personal pet care plan and emergency contacts must be in place

Risk assessments are carried out for each pet

A Safe and Supportive Environment

To support our pet-owning Residents, we’ve established designated dog-walking areas such as the nearby Millennium Path, and we’re committed to maintaining high hygiene standards across the Home. Our team works closely with each Resident to ensure pets are well cared for, and plans are in place in case of emergencies or changing health needs.

Respecting Our Community

Our pet policy has been designed with fairness in mind—balancing the joy of pet ownership with the needs and comfort of fellow Residents. In rare cases where issues arise, we reserve the right to review and potentially end a pet agreement to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the wider community.
