Creature Encounters at BBCH: A ZooLab Adventure!

Updated: Apr 10

A ZooLab Adventure!

We recently welcomed back the brilliant team from ZooLab to Bernhard Baron Care Home (BBCH), and what a lively, unforgettable afternoon it was! 🐸🦗🐌🐍

Our Residents were treated to an up-close encounter with some truly fascinating creatures—from a vibrant tree frog and a giant African land snail, to a Madagascar hissing cockroach and a beautiful corn snake.

Each creature sparked curiosity, conversation, and even a bit of courage, as Residents gently held or observed the creatures while learning all about them from ZooLab’s engaging presenter.

ZooLab is known for its hands-on, educational animal encounters that blend storytelling with science. Their trained rangers bring a carefully selected group of exotic animals into schools, care homes, and community settings, making learning both accessible and fun.

For our Residents, it’s an opportunity to reconnect with nature in a completely unique way—whether it's marvelling at the patterns on a reptile's skin or listening to the soft hissing of a cockroach!

These visits do more than just entertain. Interacting with animals can have a therapeutic effect—easing anxiety, sparking memories, and creating joy. It was wonderful to see the room full of smiles, wide eyes, and even the occasional "wow!" as Residents asked questions and shared stories about pets and wildlife from their own lives.

We’re incredibly grateful to ZooLab for bringing this engaging, multi-sensory experience to BBCH. The afternoon was not only educational, but also a beautiful reminder of how small moments—like the touch of a snail’s shell or the brush of a snake’s scales—can make a big impact.

We’re already looking forward to our next ZooLab adventure!
