There are times when a little extra support can make all the difference. At Bernhard Baron Care Home, Polegate, our Respite Care service is designed to provide short-term, high-quality care in a safe, welcoming environment — whether your loved one is recovering after a hospital stay or their usual carer simply needs some well-earned time away.

From the moment a Respite Resident arrives, they are welcomed as part of our community, just like any of our permanent Residents. We understand that staying somewhere new, even for a short time, can feel daunting, which is why we focus on comfort, familiarity and kindness from day one.

Care Tailored to the Individual

The Respite care we offer is exactly the same high standard of care provided to all our Residents. Before the stay begins, we work closely with you and your loved one to agree a detailed, personalised care plan, ensuring that personal preferences, medical needs and social wellbeing are fully understood and met.

Residents temporarily move into one of our fully furnished, en-suite bed and sitting rooms, providing privacy, comfort and a true home-from-home experience.

Flexible, Supportive Stays

Our Respite care is available for a minimum of two weeks, with no maximum stay limit. This flexibility allows Residents the time they need to rest, recover and regain confidence at their own pace. Should a Respite stay lead to a longer-term arrangement, we are always happy to welcome Residents permanently, subject to availability.

Every Respite stay includes:

All meals and snacks, with special dietary requirements fully catered for
The opportunity to take part in activities, outings and social events
Free Wi-Fi throughout the home
A warm, friendly environment with round-the-clock professional care

Whether a Resident enjoys gentle activities, socialising with others, or simply relaxing in comfortable surroundings, there is no pressure — only choice and support.

A Recent Respite Resident’s Experience

I cannot thank you enough for the wonderful care I have received from everyone in the two months I have been here for respite care. In a way I almost feel as if it must seem a bit ungrateful to want to return to my own home! I have always been very independent though and don’t feel ready to accept that I can no longer manage on my own.

This place is absolutely unique. Nothing is ever too much trouble for any of your staff – They are always so kind, caring and patient in whatever capacity they work, care, reception, accounts, kitchen, housekeeping, driving, gardening and maintenance. All truly amazing. That goes for the volunteers too.

You’ve probably not seen the last of me as I know that when and if I do need full time care, there is nowhere else I would want to be.

As well as the wonderful staff here I have been so impressed by the way the residents look out for each other, it is a real community.
