What better way to spend a sunny afternoon than surrounded by the tranquil beauty of English countryside gardens?
We recently enjoyed a truly magical visit to Charleston Farmhouse & Gardens, a hidden gem steeped in both history and natural charm. As we stepped into the walled garden, we were immediately struck by its artful blend of cottage garden whimsy and floral abundance. Gentle buzz of bees darting between the blooms.
The garden felt like stepping into a painting — With its wild, expressive planting and bold bursts of colour, the garden looked like something straight from the brush of Vanessa Bell or Duncan Grant. Bright pink hollyhocks stretched towards the sky, cheerful oxeye daisies danced along the paths, and tall spikes of deep blue larkspur stood proudly against the warm brick walls.

‘…the garden here was not a gentleman’s garden or a gardener’s garden, it was always an artist’s garden’
– Angelica Garnett (British writer and painter)
More than just a garden, Charleston is a space where art and nature meet — a place that inspired the Bloomsbury Group and continues to inspire all who visit. Our Residents loved wandering the grounds, chatting under shaded trees, and soaking in the peaceful atmosphere. One of the most peaceful spots was by the garden pond, where still waters mirrored the surrounding blooms and dragonflies darted through shafts of sunlight.
