A Very Special Invitation in recognition of Trudi Knight's outstanding long service of over 35 years in care.

We were delighted to hear about the wonderful experience Trudi recently enjoyed after being invited to attend a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace alongside her mother.

Trudi’s name was put forward to the Lord Lieutenant’s Office by Juliet Smith, former Deputy Lord Lieutenant, following a conversation with Janet Mottram. The first Trudi knew of the nomination was when she received an email from the Lord Lieutenant’s Office asking whether she would like to be considered for one of the Royal Garden Parties taking place this year.

After accepting the nomination and selecting her preferred date, her details were passed to the Lord Chamberlain’s Office, who issued the official invitation just three weeks before the event.

Preparing for the Big Day

The invitation included detailed guidance on transport, security arrangements, etiquette, and suitable attire for such a prestigious occasion. On the day itself, after having photographs taken by Jasmine, Trudi and her mother were kindly driven to the station by Tony Mottram before travelling by train to Victoria.

Arriving in London, they joined many other guests making their way towards Buckingham Palace, all dressed beautifully for the occasion. After more photographs outside the Palace and a quick security check, guests were welcomed through the gates and into the stunning gardens at the rear of the Palace grounds.

An Afternoon at Buckingham Palace

The gardens were a spectacular setting for

the afternoon, complete with lakes, woodland areas, military bands, and elegant tea tents. There were three separate tea areas — one for the majority of guests, one for members of the Royal Family and dignitaries, and another for military personnel.

At 4pm, the bands played “God Save the King” to announce the arrival of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. The royal couple appeared at the top of the Palace steps before walking slowly through the gathered guests, greeting people as they made their way across the lawn.

Although Trudi and her mother did not have the opportunity to meet the King and Queen personally, they were able to capture some lovely photographs and enjoy the incredible atmosphere of the occasion.

Tea, Traditions, and Wonderful Conversations

Guests were treated to a traditional afternoon tea with sandwiches, drinks, and sweet treats. One of the highlights for Trudi and her mother was admiring the wide variety of outfits worn by fellow guests, with many colourful and fascinating styles on display.

They also enjoyed speaking with other attendees and hearing the inspiring stories behind why they had each been invited to such a special event.

A Truly Memorable Occasion

At 5.30pm, the band once again played “God Save the King” as the King and Queen departed alongside the colourful Yeomen of the Guard. Shortly afterwards, guests began making their way home.

Fortunately, the weather remained fair throughout the afternoon, with only a few spots of rain appearing as Trudi and her mother returned to the station.

Reflecting on the day, Trudi described the experience as “absolutely fabulous” and said that both she and her mother felt incredibly privileged to have attended such a memorable occasion.
