This week our residents experienced a wonderful outing to St Nicholas Church in Pevensey for the eagerly anticipated Flower Festival. The theme this year was , “British Authors- Have you read it?,” The festival showcased stunning floral displays inspired by beloved literary stories and characters. The visit was a vibrant mix of colours & creativity.
Upon arriving at St Nicholas Church, the Residents were greeted by beautiful flower displays.
Music Hall
One of the larger displays was inspired by The Music Hall Songbook (a collection of 45 of the best songs from 1890-1920) by Peter Gammond.
At its heart is a magnificent cascade of blooms, dominated by soft pink lilies, their trumpet-shaped petals. Nestled among them, rare blue lilies add a striking pop of cool tone — unexpected and eye-catching, they bring a sense of wonder and individuality to the arrangement.
Surrounding these focal flowers are clusters of vivid pink carnations, full of texture and life. Known for symbolising love and remembrance, they added both cheer and meaning to the display. Alongside them, delicate cream roses soften the overall look, bringing with them the classic charm of vintage romance.
Threaded throughout are white lisianthus, their gently ruffled petals offering a whisper of softness. They serve as a beautiful contrast to the more dramatic blooms.
Framing the central display, there was tall sprays of globe-like white alliums, standing proudly in vases. Their spherical shape and structural elegance lend height and symmetry to the scene.
Draped beneath the main arrangement was a rich blue embroidered cloth and a vibrant hand-painted fan was resting at the base, while vintage-style portraits and trinkets brought a touch of nostalgia to the scene.

A Floral Wonderland
Just a few steps away, another display paid homage to the enchanting world of “Alice in Wonderland” with an Alice cutout, a prominent gold frame suggesting a looking-glass, subtle reversed text, and a vibrant mix of irises, gerbera daisies, roses, and carnations.

Stunning Scarlet
The arrangement for "A Study in Scarlet" (the 1887 detective novel by Arthur Conan Doyle, marking the first appearance of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, and is significant for its innovative approach to detective fiction). The main floral elements are rich, dark red Anthuriums, known for their heart-shaped waxy blooms, and other red tropical flowers, creating a bold and dramatic effect.

Shell Seekers
Additionally, one display highlighted "The Shell Seekers" ( a 1987 novel by Rosamunde Pilcher that explores the lives of three generations of a family, focusing on Penelope Keeling's journey through life and her relationship with her children.) The novel is set against the backdrop of a cherished painting, "The Shell Seekers," which serves as a symbol of the family's history and legacies. The flower display included chrysanthemums mixed with dark red blooms.

The flower festival is wonderful example of how a shared vision can bring people together, fostering friendships and strengthening community bonds.
